Child Find

What is Child Find?

* Child Find provides developmental screenings and, when appropriate, comprehensive multidisciplinary evaluations
* Child Find is mandated by law
* Child Find is a free service
* Child Find connects children and families to intervention services when it is appropriate

The Child Find Program is provided throughout the 14 school districts in the San Luis Valley. Children ages 0 to 5 are screened and assessed through the SLV BOCES. Child Find services for school age children are completed through their local school districts.

Why is Child Find Important?

Child Find helps the child and the family to determine the need for services and links families to these services. For younger children, Child Find can reassure parents about their child's development.
Child Find has the responsibility of helping hard to reach populations (migrant, homeless or truant students, etc) to connect to Child Find and eligible services in their area.
